So let's change religion to food. It is a very personal thing. For many people it means everything in the world to them. There are people that talk about food on a daily basis. They take pictures of what they eat, they share recipes about what they eat, they tell you why what you eat is not healthy for you and why you should eat what they are eating instead. They rate what food is great and what food is bad.
Just as frequently you have some say I am tried of hearing people talk about bacon. Bacon is so overrated. It is disgusting and makes me sick. People should know better than to eat bacon. I am just going to stop talking to people that eat bacon.
Then you have the people that think you are evil if you eat animals. How can you eat another animal they say. There is no need to eat another animal. Humans are suppose to be better than that. What did the animal ever do to hurt you. If you want to be an enlightened human then you should not eat animals. Then you have those that take it one step further and say that you should not eat any products from an animal at all such as milk and cheese.
Well of course you have people that say that plants are living organisms too so why is an animal's life more valuable than a plant. Plants enable life to exist on Earth so they probably are more valuable than the animals. Besides most of the plants in the world today are genetically engineered and grown with pesticides so they are far from health so you really are not better than I am for not eating meat.
And of course you have all the different combinations of animal limbs, muscles, organs, intestines, fungus, grass, and weeds we all call food. Occasionally you will have a person go into a meat shop and become upset that they sell meat. Or maybe they just eat too much meat. Or sugar. So we want the government to stop them from being able to sell sugar.
I am sure we all have friends that eat things we would not. Do we tell them not to come to our homes? Do we tell them they have to eat our food and stop eating theirs? When we go to work do we expect our co-workers to not eat anything that offends our palette. What about to a restaurant? How about a picnic in the park?
The truest form of freedom is to allow others to be free to be themselves. As long as they are not causing any harm to themselves and others society should have no problem with their behavior. You feeling bad because of what someone else eats is not causing you any harm. It would be nice if we lived in a world where we could all eat whatever we liked and other simply respected that, but that is not the human way.
Do you now understand the concept of religious tolerance?
