This movie about McCain choosing Palin as a VP candidate comes out on Saturday. I was listening to Jay Roach do an interview about why he made the movie and what his take away was. One thing he brought up over and over again is how on one level Palin was disregarded not because of her politics but because she was a woman. She suffered many of the same insults that Hillary had suffered through earlier. The men on the Left had no problem throwing derogatory insults at her that they have always thrown at women. Because many did not like her and her positions, they felt it was ok to speak about her in any way they wanted.
They attacked her family including her teen daughter who was pregnant at the time. They said she was an idiot for having a child with Downs Syndrome when she should have had an abortion. They basically used every negative phrase you could call a woman and still use today.
I really am not surprised that men did this, because this is the way the majority of men are. They view women as sex objects and relatives and that is it. What I am really struck by is how many women behave the same way. You will see women use the same derogatory language at other women just like men. They listen to the same derogatory songs that men do. Women degrade women probably more than men do cause they do it on levels that men can not.
As a society is this really how we want to be? I have no expectations that it is going to change anytime soon because at this point I do not believe the majority of people find it offensive. We love saying how much we have grown as a county, but when you really start peeling back the layers, have we really changed that much. Sure women are not property anymore, but it sure looks like they are being sold everyday at a store, church, or government building near you.
