We all know I am no stranger to upsetting people. No matter how polite or cordial, I am going to make some people mad. More than a few people have "unfriended" me in the past couple of months because of views I have expressed.
So let's clear something up. Sexual assault is one of the most evil and insidious acts a human being can commit. It often goes in hand with the other evil and insidious act of murder. There is nothing more serious. Many people we know, both female and male, have been sexually assaulted and live with that pain every single day.
Our injustice system has historically not addressed sexual assault as a serious crime for most people. Even today they are not vigorously pursued as other crimes because they are hard to prove and there is an element that often victims contribute to the circumstances that led to their assault.
So you are going to have to understand that I find it suspect that supposedly outraged people can make jokes about rape. Maybe humanity in American and maybe the world is that screwed up that getting raped is funny and a laughing matter.
On Twitter you can see people say they are a victim of rape and in the next line tell a joke about someone being raped. In fact I have seen far too many people, both liberals and conservatives make rape threats against someone that has upset them.
In America we have decided that critical thinking, reason, and logic do not matter. Instead we go with our "gut" and what we feel. The idea of justice and fairness are foreign concepts in today's world. So we are now in a time where if a man is accused of sexual assault many are going to say he is guilty without any further evidence.
Well that is if you are African American. If you are white then the public will probably forget in a month or so. Don't take my word on it. Just do a simple Google search and see how many celebrities have been accused of sexual assault over the years. You may be surprised.
So we are in the days where saying "no comment" or "I will not dignify that with a response" are no longer going to be accepted by the public. We are a people driven by scandal and we are always looking for the next victims.
Fame and wealth are nice but the price is becoming higher and higher. Maybe a criminal justice system that people could trust would help but I doubt it. People love to bring people down more than they like rising them up. In America it is an extra bonus when that someone is African American or someone you dislike.
