Don't you just love Facebook? It has brought grandmothers, grandfathers, parents, jocks, cool guys, and cute girls all to the world of social media and the Internet, the former domain of nerds, geeks, and really smart people.
Now for us old pioneers of the Internet the concept of Facebook is nothing new. After all it is just a bulletin board that has been around forever , just with a different interface. Internet chat has been around forever too. So Facebook just was able to make that stuff cool and powerful taking down a few countries to date. (I just want to say here that I never want to hear anyone say that Facebook is not serious again, even though I know someone will.)
To us veterans we all know the rules of message boards. There are going to be people that say things we do not like. Sometimes even down right mean and nasty. If you skin is thin then you best not get in. Posters will talk about everything between your appearance to your dead child, pulling no punches. So if words hurt you, then posting in a forum might not be for you.
Which now brings me to the Internet thugs and bullies or as we like to call them trolls. Believe it or not there are people that live to upset people online. They go out of their way to make people as mad as possible. I don't know why but I am sure it is because they need professional psychiatric help dealing with issues in their lives.
So that brings us back to being unfriend. Now grandma, grandpa, and cute Susie are not used to people being mean to them. Let's be honest the average person has no one around them that either disagrees with them or is going to openly say it to them. So when they are faced with someone saying or doing something they don't like online, then they unfriend them. It puts them back in control because they showed them.
Now for those that know me I have almost daily discussions about important topics either things from me or things others ask me to talk about, that is the reason Grandposts was started, so a person or two has not been happy with either something I said or something someone else said, so I have been unfriend (yes even fair, open-minded, let anyone speak me).
It is not the end of the world, or a reason to start a fight, so I thought I would make a list of the reasons people are unfriend.
Top 10 reasons People Unfriend you on Facebook.
10. They were never your friend in the first place
9. Something that you did to them in the real world
8.There girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife told them too
7. You have offensive pictures up
6. You said something that they did not like.
5. You post things that will offend their other friends
4. Your constant updates of Farmville, Mafia Wars, Cityville, etc
3. Constant spamming of your party, events, and other things people have no interest in joining
2. You talk about religion and politics too much.
1. You are really just a jerk and a bully
Now the great thing about this list is that it can apply to the person unfriend and the person doing the unfriending. I know it is funny how opinions are a two way street. Too bad most people never understand that.
