There were reports for weeks that Facebook lost millions of users over the last 6 months. It seemed as if that magical glow started to disappear. I had many people tell me they were done with Facebook, because it was becoming too much like Myspace. With the rise of malware and hacking, people have decided it is cooler to say you not on Facebook, than to say you are on it.
Then this past week I saw a report that said Facebook now has 750 million users that log in at least once a month. So which one is it? Are people leaving facebook in droves or is it still the juggernaut of the tech world.
Many people originally used Facebook in college when it was just part of the university scene. Then they began to add their family and friends who at the time only knew of Myspace. Now grandmothers from around the world are among regular Facebook users.
And let's be honest Twitter is the new cool power tool for those people that want to spread their message and reach a lot of people. Many people have left Facebook simply because it is not an effective tool for networking and meeting new people, especially if you are a business because of the restrictions I hear many marketing professionals complain about frequently.
So do you think Facebook is worth 100 billion dollars (which would make it bigger than Microsoft, Apple, and Google) or do you think it is about to crash and burn like Myspace before it? I think it is somewhere in the middle but only time will tell.
