The majority of the people I know in the tech field have always been perplexed by the success of Apple. There is absolutely nothing amazing or ground breaking about their products from a tech point of view, but of course we know consumers don't buy things based on tech specs. As a marketing professional I know likes to tell me, most people buy things based on a value (real or imagined) a product brings to them.
So this is where Apple comes in. They make products that people want for reasons other than tech specs. Take the Apple iPad. There have been story after story about all the things that the iPad does badly and how it costs too much, yet more iPads have been sold over the first days since it has been released than the iPhone. Simply amazing. One lady even saved up pennies, literally, to buy one, well at least attempt to buy one.
