I remember the first time I heard someone say they were proud of being a sinner. It kind of caught me off guard because I thought there was no way a person that claimed Jesus Christ as their savior would say they were proud to be a sinner, but sure enough that was exactly what they were saying. Since then I have seen more and more people go a step further and say how being a sinner makes them a perfect human being.
So how have we arrived at the point where people feel emboldened to say how proud they are to be a sinner. We all see people that proclaim how they have a sin they are proud of but they still proclaim how much they love God. Most let it be known that it is not something they are trying to fix or improve upon on, it is something that we and even the Father is just going to have to accept.
Before we point out how lost these souls are, we need to explore how they became lost in the first place. When we examine what could have caused them to believe this was okay the source that comes up will be the church for we know that the Bible teaches us that God does not tolerate sin.
When I say the church I am talking about all of the various flavors of Christianity that are out there. See they all got started because the church had a rule that some people did not like. This caused people to want to leave the church and start their own church. Over the years the church has gotten further and further away from the teachings of Jesus and closer and closer to the teachings of humankind. We are at the point where we believe our opinions are as valid as the Word of God.
So when people came to the church seeking the love of God they were turned away because they were not “proper upstanding individuals”. See for most of history if you were not of a certain class then you were told that you were not good enough of God. Most people were made to feel that they were not worthy of the love of God because of their sins.
The did not teach people that you are never at a place that you are too far gone that God can not save you. We are all sinners and it is only by the blood of Jesus Christ that we are saved. It is only by the grace and mercy of God that we are allowed to come before Him. We don’t do anything to deserve this it is only because God loves us.
But people do what they always do when someone does something to them wrong. They take that as an excuse to do something wrong back. So the response to the church teaching people the wrong message is to respond back with a wrong response.
You are not suppose to be proud of your sin. You are suppose to be ashamed of your sin. Sin is what keeps us from God. Pride keeps us from God and keeps us from being humble before God. We should feel a sense of disappointment in ourselves when we fall short in serving God. Our failures are not something we should take pride in and hold up as example of how we are not living up to the glory of God.
We need to remember that in order to be a servant of God we have to be devoted to His Word. We need to understand that every action we take in life is a reflection of our service to the Father. Are your sins what you are trying to show the world about God? Is that your testimony to the power of God?
We always need to remember that people have always used the Word of God to harm others and make them feel less about themselves. We must never allow these falsehoods to influence true service to God. We must always seek the glory of God and never those things that keep us from God. You may be unapologetically proud of your sins today but on judgment I am sure you are going to seek mercy for those sins when you are before God. Remember that you are judged for your actions today so be the best you can each and every day.
