I have been told many times “If a person tells me that they don’t lie, I will never trust them”. Lying has become so common that people always think someone is lying and they don’t know the truth when they hear it.
Of all the sins lying is the most dangerous and also the one that people have basically removed from the sin list. Well off the personal sin list. People don’t have a problem with their lying, they just have a problem with your lying.
We came up with the term “white lie” (yes have a problem with that) that attempts to take the sting out of the sin of lying but make no mistake, God does not tolerate lying.
I used to say that people can not lie to themselves but I am not so sure anymore. After years of lying to people that know they are lying, it seems lying to themselves became as easy as breathing. I have stood by many times as a person flat out lies when everyone around them knew they were lying and they still proceeded telling their tall tale.
Lying has become the defense and coping mechanism so many use to get through life. When the truth hurts, then a sweet lie makes life all the more bearable. Not many people want to go through life being honest when the truth is something that will make you a lot of enemies and very quickly I might add.
But oh how the story changes when you are the person that is being lied and all the time, then we want to shed tears and cry foul. Then you want to talk about the virtues of honesty and truth. To top it all off that is when you tell the lie that you always tell the truth.
Lies have killed more people and destroyed more lives than any weapon ever forged. Lies do irreparable harm to everyone involved but people just keep on lying and causing pain. People don’t care because they just keep on doing it.
I mean we are at the point where people are trying to teach themselves how to tell the truth and oh is it a painful and long process. It apparently is so hard for people to tell the truth that it is stated that you will not be able to do it so you have to prepare yourself for failure.
I have never gotten used to people lying and people have never gotten used to me telling the truth. As anyone that knows me will tell you, if you want to hear the truth then ask Mr. Graham because that is all that you are going to get. The shock on people’s faces when they hear the truth from God is both inspiring and sad at the same.
It is inspiring to see people see the Lord in your actions but it is also sad to think that this may be the first time that has happened for them. Then they either start to shine in the light of God or they sink into the darkness of evil because their sin was brought to the light.
I am here to tell you that telling the truth is not a process. You can tell the truth anytime you wish if that is what you want to do. The truth you must speak every day is the truth about who you are and where you stand with God because you can lie to everybody but you can not lie to God.
