In our world today it seems many people have decided that they only way they can deal with the evils of this world is to either ignore that the evil exists or you have to be sad and depressed 24/7 about it. So many forget that even in the midst of evil there is still the abundant joy of God.
Throughout the years I have often asked people to tell me what is good in their lives. In the South it is a common greeting that we have. Life is hard and requires a lot of hard work so uplifting others and yourself brings a lot of joy to you life.
But we live in times now where uplifting others is a bad thing. Trying to bring happiness and smiles to others is seen by so many as intruding in their lives. We have become a people that seeks out pain and misery over joy and happiness.
Even among my fellow Christians I see a lot of gloom and doom. So many look over the joy of God to embrace the hopelessness of the world. So many no longer believe in anything good in life. They don't believe in good people, happy marriages, or faithful servants.
We as a society have rejected the idea of good. We look for strife and conflict in all aspect of our lives. Even in our entertainment we look for stories that tell tales of destruction and damnation instead of stories of jubilation and paradise.
We have to ask ourselves why do so many feel more comfortable with pain and sorrow than the idea of happiness. What has happened to make us not be content with the lives we have been given by God?
I believe that too many of us have turned away from God's purpose in search of man's purpose. Instead of living for things of Heaven we are living for things of Earth. When we don't achieve those things of Earth it leaves us feeling lost and empty inside. Once that happens we then begin to covet the things others have that we want.
See when we stray off the path that God has placed before us then we are no longer walking in the light of God. We have left our guide and are on our own. If you have ever traveled on a journey in unfamiliar lands then you know how lost you become when you don't have a guide. Unlike the movies in real life when you travel unknown places without a guide then you most likely will perish.
We need to remember that God has a purpose for each and every one of us and there is joy and happiness in that purpose. No matter what trouble we go through in life we need to remember that God is with us every step of the way. While you will not smile through it all there will be many things that will bring you joy throughout life.
We need to remember to cherish those blessings from God that bring us joy and be happy in those moments. Sometimes just helping others is the most joyous thing we can do. Do not be deceived, there may be much evil in the world but it will never be more than the love of God that brings us joy everyday.
