Probably the hardest, and last, lesson many people learn is that the world is not a very nice place.
It’s really easy to hate people that do evil things. Some might even say that it is required. There are certain acts we like to say are unforgivable. It seems that people just can’t seem to care about the well-being of others.
Not that it is really new. The world has always been an evil place. Many people just were able to ignore it more in the past than they are today. We didn’t have 24/7 TV news, the internet, social media, and unlimited calls and texts. Now it is basically impossible to escape what happens in every corner of the world. Even if you are able to avoid what’s happening chances are someone you know is going to tell you about the horrid details of what is happening.
Even in the information age a few of us still manage to avoid the constant chatter. There are those of us that filter information. We only plug into certain sources and we only associate with certain people that are just like us therefore we never know about different views and perspectives. There is only our world view and nothing else.
This can be good and bad. It is good if we are feeding our souls with the love of God. It is bad if we are feeding ours souls with the evil of the world. It is hard to explain how to embrace love while not tolerating the hate that poisons so many people. This is something so many people struggle and most can never come to terms.
There are many evil people in this world. They are not misguided or lost. They fully embrace the evil in their hearts. Some people commit heinous acts while others do more subtle evil acts. Both are evil. Both are deadly. One is overt while the other goes unnoticed.
It is important that we never forget to love, especially those that would do us harm, without accepting their evil behavior. It is something that has become difficult especially since so many now wish to flaunt their evil ways.
Evil learned a long time ago how to hide in plain sight by simply invoking the name of God in everything that it does because in our world today few are convicted enough in their faith to call out the wrong of others. We have reached a point that I doubt most even know what a sin is or why God does not accept sinful behavior.
But we are blessed that the love of God is powerful enough to continuously feed our hearts so that we can continue to do his work and speak to those that seek His love. Sometimes people need to see the love of God in another human being before it touches them.
I think we forget that many people have lived horrible lives. They have endured all kinds of pain and horrors often from the people that were suppose to love and protect them. They had to live for years with this pain and no one came to save them. How does this person learn to love God, themselves, or people like those that hurt them?
We have to remember that in life it is our job to love and to spread the good that is the Word of God. There are so many people in our daily lives that need to see this love and we may never know it. We must focus on doing this and not on how much evil there is in the world or hating those that hate us. Love will always conquer hate one person at a time.
