It has always been a great struggle among the faithful on exactly how you go through life following God. It is a very easy thing to say but for many it is not so easy to do. In life you will always be presented with situations that will test your faith.
It is during these difficulties that many struggle with their faith in God. While the Bible is your guide through life, it does not have a verse that will clearly tell you what you should do in every single situation in your life. Even those verses that seem to be clear in their intent have been called into question especially when they do not fit the lifestyles of modern society.
Most people live their lives with the thought that whatever they wish to do is okay with God. For example if it is your dream to be a successful actor, then you will believe that God wants you to be an actor. Anything that prevents you from becoming an actor you will say that is the Devil preventing you from achieving your greatness. Family and friends that try to dissuade you from becoming an actor will be viewed as people trying to keep you from God's mission. So then how do you know when you are following God or when you are simply following your own desires?
This is a question many Christians have when their faith in God is low and they covet the riches and pleasures of the world. Instead of being led by the Spirit in our daily lives, many will try and direct the Spirit to give us what we want. We do not have faith in God's plan for our lives.
We then proclaim what is right or wrong in life instead of even referring to God's will. This is why you will see so many Christians living in a way that they know goes against the commandments of God, but still will use God's Word to justify that lifestyle.
For many Christians serving God is not at the top of their list. Pleasing their own selfish desires, pleasing their family and friends, pleasing their groups and political parties are of far more importance than doing the will of God.
While the Bible many not have all the answers some of us desire in life, the Spirit will always guide you on the right path but we must understand that in a world wracked with sin that path will often conflict with the world.
This is why the Bible tells us time and again that those that serve God stand out from others. You do not have to utter a single word to tell people that you follow God. Everything about your life will be a testimony to God.
In life if you are finding that you are trying to convince yourself to follow God, pray for faith and understanding to guide your path. Understand that you must turn yourself over to God completely and not just in parts. When you surrender to God then you will find that life is easier and that you will be filled with much joy no matter the circumstances you encounter in life.
