The wages of sin are death. If you identify as a Christian I am sure you have heard this said more than once in your life. We are taught early that God hates sin. It is not possible to get close to God through sin.
So then why do we see so many people today living a boastful sinful life. There is no shame or fear in our sinful behavior in our world today. We proudly let it be known that we not only embrace sin, we do so joyfully.
Many priests and teachers shy away from directly addressing sin. They know that if they start talking about sin too much then people will stop coming to their services. It is hard to develop a following when you actually teach what sin is based on the Holy Bible.
One of the things that has taken me aback is how people freely share their sins with me. It is not to ask for guidance and strength in spirit, but to boast about them. Many people are actually shocked that I do not share their happiness in their sin.
I believe there are a couple of reasons we have arrived at this point. The first one I am sure you can guess because it is one of the reasons that Jesus came to save us. Too often instead of showing love and compassion to those who have sinned, we instead show them hate and contempt. We try to punish them and make them suffer all the days of their life. We try to make them feel less than us.
The second reason I am sure you can also guess because it is another thing that Jesus spoke against which is being a hypocrite. We often think our sins are fine and even justified because in the same situation everyone would have done the same thing. Most people simply are not capable of shining the light of God on our own actions so our sins are always ignore or excused.
When you think like this then you completely ignore what God has stated about sin. We completely miss why it is a sin in the first place. Sin is anything that goes against God. It does not matter if we believe it to be okay for if God says it is wrong then it is a sin.
While it may fill you with confidence to embrace your sinful ways the time will come when it is too much to bare. It may be in this life or it may be in the next but one day you will find that sin will not be tolerated.
It took the sacrifice of Jesus to purify your sins. When you truly accept and devout your life to God you will not longer have a desire to willful engage in sin. You will still sin but you will be moved to quickly atone for those sins so you can get closer to God.
If you are finding that you can not let go of your sinful behavior you will find that you have not fully devoted yourself to God and have not rejected that sinful life. For God tells us that he is a jealous God and that we can not serve Him and sin.
Many Christians need to learn to reject sin in our lives and always seek the gift of love and peace that lays in faithful service to God.
