A question crosses my mind this Sunday morning. Why do so many people know everything?
It has always been apparent to me in my teaching that people, almost without exception, will always hold onto their understanding of things regardless of facts that dispute what they believe.
In short there is no way to change the mind of most people on any issue. Facts are not required. Reason is not required. Proof is not required. The only thing that is required is that is what the person believes and each person is convinced that whatever they believe is the "truth" and everyone else is a lost soul.
This is especially true of those people of faith. They are unable to shake the shackles of long held beliefs no matter what. Even when they completely denounce the faith they still live their lives as if they are still following it.
Humans have always been arrogant and stubborn. It is easily one of our greatest flaws. It is the mechanism that is often used to bring us down and leads to our own destruction. The examples span time itself and continue to this very day.
What is it about people that makes them reject everything that does not come from their own mind. How does one just decide that they know every single thing in existence down to the smallest detail? How can anyone that believes in God not understand that their comprehension of life is infinitesimal?
Is it shame in simply saying I do not know, I do not have all the answers. I need help? Is it jealously that there are some people that have different gifts and talents that they are to use to help us? Is it a fear of not fitting in with the crowd or those that we admire? Is it just not wanting to be a fool?
I am always asked why do I do what I do. Why do I spend so much time and energy to reach people who do not want to be reached; who reject everything that I say, whether I can back it up or not.
It is a very simple answer. One because I care and I wish to help those that I can. Second I love to learn and everyone is able to teach something. The world is a big place and learning and growing never stops. Mostly because I am not afraid to say that I do not know and can you please help me.
It always seems that people forget that God still has servants that are messengers of his Word and we reject them at our own peril, for you never know who you are speaking. Please keep that in mind each and every day as you “correct” someone trying to give you the good Word.
