Too many times we feel defeated. We feel worthless. We feel powerless. Less than nothing.
Too many times we think God can't help us. God can't hear us. God hates us.
Too many times we turn to pills, porn, and many other things to feel good about our self.
Too many times we put God on the back burner.
Too many times we say "NO" to God, and think we can only trust ourselves.
You may ask , why am I saying all this? Are you trying to make me seem like I'm just horrible?
No, I am saying this to remind you of a very simple truth. God freed you from your chains. Made you new.
The bible has many heroes. Many villians. I want to focus on a few heroes here.
This dude is LEGIT. He is known for his righteousness. His wisdom. His power. His influence. Writing proverbs.
But he is also known for worshipping many, many idols and he had 300 concubines and 700 wives.
His life is one to model after for sure. He had the faith of a mustard seed as a child, and took down Goliath with a sling and rock. He was a great king. Writing many of the Psalms.
But don't forget...he stole a mans wife, and killed the husband of the woman.
This dude when questioned by Jesus "Who am I to you?" said "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." He had courage and confidence that was indescribable. Don't forget though, he denied knowing Jesus Christ three times.
I will let Paul speak for himself here. Keep in mind this guy was a pharisee and christian killer.
2 Corinthians: 23-29
Are they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers. I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches. Who is weak, and I do not feel weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn?
Must I speak more? Yes, we screw up at times. Yes we fall down. Never forget though, some of the arguably most influential christians to ever live screwed up too
