Why So Many Women Need Wonder Woman

History has been made and a Wonder Woman movie has finally been made. As unfathomable as it is to believe Hollywood has made every movie that could be made 30 times before making one Wonder Woman movie. Let that sink in for a moment.
I have no idea why it has taken so long and been so difficult to make a Wonder Woman. Not only does everyone know who Wonder Woman is but women love Wonder Woman. She has become a symbol of everything it means to be a woman. I have seen women across the world in every culture on the planet identify with Wonder Woman.

But what do people actually know about the character. When it was announced that Gal Gadot had landed the role, I saw quite a few people complain about the choice. Apparently a lot of people thought Wonder Woman was 7ft tall with large budging muscles and hairy arm pits that came from a race of giantesses that devour the flesh of men.

It was quite obvious that the average person probably had just a vague idea of the concept of the character of Wonder Woman but had never actually read a book featuring the character. They knew nothing of her story and all the trials and tribulations that so many women can relate to in their lives.

Comic books are the modern day fairy tales that inspire children and today even adults. The medium has always been a reflection of life or better  yet the fantasies people have. I doubt even today many people know that Wonder Woman started off as just the secretary of the Justice Society of America.

That’s right in the woman we all know as the great warrior princess was only allowed to be a secretary that cheered the boys on as they fought against the bad guys. The funny part to this ridiculous tale is that it was Wonder Woman’s creator that gave her this job because he wanted to control the character and make sure that she was not misused outside of her own book. This is an issue that has plagued the character and probably why Wonder Woman has not been seen as much as Superman and Batman until recent years.

Even in 2017 it is hard to be a woman especially an average woman. Sure things are somewhat rosey if you are rich and famous but for the average woman and girl just going through a day probably requires super powers.  For decades Diana has been that spark that has helped a lot of women achieve their goals.

Wonder Woman is so loved that when DC tried to give her pants some of her fans erupted and it was not the male fans doing the screaming it was her female fans. While many pieces have been written about Wonder Woman’s attire, for many women it is a sign of female empowerment but to others it is blatantly sexist.  This conflict is what makes Wonder Woman so great because she appeals to so many women.

To all my sisters in Wonder Woman underoos and t-shirts I am so glad that you have Wonder Woman because she has helped you be the great women and girls that you are today. The Amazon princess will never quit fighting evil and neither should you.
